Open Source Dance, it's theories, applications and processes are an

outcome from the research "Contemporary Dance [Modern/Western

Movement Vocabulary]: The catalyst for deviation and extension in Post

Structural Sound, Choreoperiodicity, Optimum Creative Dialog and the

Dunnist Period in Music" by Composer Manjunan Gnanaratnam. [2004]

Abstract: Contemporary Dance [Modern], in it’s short 100 year history has

served as a cradle for innovation and experimentation in every format of it's

multidisciplinary identity. From ground breaking explorations into the

kinesthetic understanding of the human body to serving as a center for

cross disciplinary, interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary and interactive

investigations involving all artistic disciplines, hence, one only needs to

become familiar with this rich history to comprehend its significance and

impact on past and current trends in pop art. The dancer who comes

of age in this new century, a time where "new media" plays a significant

role in not only the dissemination and assimilation of information, but also

in the evolution of a "new audience" in dance, is that much better prepared,

sooner than later, to explore the possibilities of this new identity in dance.

However, career path choices in dance have remained almost stagnant in the

past twenty fiver years and are now found to be greatly limiting to the

development of this new identity,  hence, another environment is needed..
